We’d love to hear your take on this, folks — both on the Parent Dish article, as linked above, and on the NPR report.
I* try not to read ‘mommyblogs’, sort of as a rule, ‘cause they can be so damned infuriating. Statements like this one:
Face it, in the world we live in it is a very real possibility that Thordora meant to do her daughter harm. And why take the chance? Every person who followed Thordora’s tweets who read that and did nothing would be essentially to blame for anything that happened to her daughter.
… are not unusual, and make my blood boil. According to this author, if you can read the following one hundred and forty characters:
“If I smother my 3 year old, who will NOT GO TO FUCKING SLEEP, is it REALLY a crime?”
… and not pick up the phone and dial 9-1-1 and the local fire department, hospitals, DCYF, and television stations, guess what! You just killed a toddler. If, of course, that toddler was actually killed — and not just TWITTERED about by her frustrated, sleep-deprived mother**. And if the tweet were an actual threat, which — it wasn’t.
If someone called the police every time I said I wished someone would die, oh man, they’d’ve worn quite a path from the station to my house by now.
Anyway: chime in. Email us — it’d be great to hear from y’all.

* The “I” here refers to Amelia over at i’ve never heard of you.
** The many references to the mother’s bipolar disorder did NOT, btw, go unnoticed by yours truly. I’m just too busy seething about all of THAT to write anything further at this juncture.
